Bright Idea- Kidisms

September 21, 2011

Written by Contributing Writer, Sarah Farthing

My friend shared an awesome idea with me the other day and I can’t resist passing it on!  She mentioned that she opened gmail accounts for her sons because their last name is not uncommon and she wanted to make sure when they’re old enough to actually e-mail that they could have an account with their own name.  I love her planning here; this idea is quite thoughtful in and of itself.

While I was still busy being impressed with this information, she hit me with the real gem, which is her idea to start e-mailing the funny/sweet/endearing things her kids say to those accounts now!  Voila!  An instant record of all those things our kids say that we hope we’ll never forget but always will if we don’t write them down.  I love it.  A lot of us are at computers periodically (or more often than that) throughout the day.  How easy would it be to type out a few memorable quotes when we’re already logged in and e-mail them as the days and weeks pass by?  And with that being the only e-mail activity on the account, it couldn’t fill up too quickly but you could always pick a milestone like their birthday or the end of each season to go through and print or save each message.

Today’s Bright Idea came from Jen, mom of Koen (5) and Hudsen (2 1/2), from Lawrence, KS!

Wonderful idea! Sounds like an old-fashioned diary with new technology. I thought I was ahead of the game in the 1990s by printing and saving every e-mail from my children from their college days!
