Robert McCloskey

There are some authors that deserve a prominent place in your home library. Robert McCloskey is one of these authors. His work defines classic children’s literature: brilliant, well written stories accompanied by beautiful illustrations. He won the coveted Caldecott Medal for Time of Wonder and Make Way for Ducklings. His Journey Cake, Ho!, One Morning in Maine, and Blueberries for Sal won Caldecott Honors.
These books are a snapshot of time gone by, heartwarming and wholesome.

Make Way for Ducklings

Make Way
Make room for this book! Follow the famous ducklings of Boston on their expedition to the Public Garden.

Blueberries for Sal

Blueberries for Sal
An adorable tale of Sal and her mother picking blueberries at the same time as a young bear cub and her mother.

One Morning in Maine

One Morning
Consistently a favorite at our home. The soft lilt induces sleep better than any singing I could ever produce. A winner!

Time of Wonder

Time of Wonder
A beautiful and intelligent story of a family visiting Maine for the summer.

Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man

Burt Dow
I love Burt Dow and his whales. I can just picture this quintessential Maine seaman.

Homer Price

Homer Price
An illustrated chapter book that focuses on the wit and fun of an all-American boy in an all-American town.

Centerburg Tales: More Adventures of Homer Price

Centerburg Tales
A sequel chapter book with more adventures of the great Homer Price.

What a great choice! His books were favorites of mine growing up, and the tradition has continued with my children. Thanks for reminding us of (and in some cases, I’m sure, introducing us to) a wonderful author and his works!
