An Unlikely Pair

October 30, 2014

Written by Marykate O’Malley, mother of three wonderful children, Gladwyne PA

I love butter. Like really love butter. When I was a child I used to eat sticks of it. The way you bite into a honeycrisp apple is the same way I would bite into a cold stick of salty goodness. Yum. Now I just smother my toast in it or use extra, extra when making, well, everything. I also have bizarrely low cholesterol – so I justify it. You don’t need to know this. And probably don’t care. I don’t blame you. It’s not exactly exciting stuff. Me? I like this little tidbit about myself. Makes me stand out. Maybe I can’t do a handstand in the center of the yoga studio but, ahem, I do have crazy low cholesterol.

And so, coffee and butter. Two of my great culinary loves which have now come together. As in butter in my coffee. Why you may ask? Because it makes the caffeine last longer of course! I won’t lie – the grease that forms on the top of your coffee can be, well, gross. But other than that – it’s awesome! Here is more about it on Dr Oz.

I have been warming coconut milk and butter first and then preparing the coffee. I’ve switched to coconut milk from cows milk but that is a whole other story that maybe I will post about. Maybe I won’t. It’s not as exciting as butter in your coffee.
