Removing Stains From Granite Counters

January 8, 2014

Do you know the panic that ensues when you discover a stain on something major?

Ours occurred when I moved a red-foiled Christmas cactus to discover red on my otherwise gray granite counter. I tried various things then chose to cover it so I could take a break from the panic.

(It’s hard to see here, but look for redd-ish dots)

Running Man lifted said paper towel and mentioned off-hand that he thought bleach would lift the stain.
{Sidenote here: While I love this man like crazy, it IS kind of annoying that he knows all things like this, and even more when he tends to be right.}

So I did some Googling, and lo and behold, bleach will not hurt granite (I wouldn’t try this on anything else), and will lift the stain.

So I poured some on and covered with Saran Wrap for overnight.

And it didn’t even take that long – after an hour the stain was gone. GONE!

You can just picture the video of me doing a relieved, happy dance.
