Reverse Compliments

My kids can be hard on me. I take it as a compliment. My daughter still reminds me, “Mom, remember when you forgot to pack my lunch in kindergarten?” (She just finished second grade. And there was a half day so I had a reason, not that I am defensive about it.) Or sometimes I get “wait, these muffins aren’t homemade?” (I like to bake, in other words I like to eat homemade muffins). Or once in a while someone will protest “we didn’t get a playdate allllll week!”

This tells me I am doing a bang up job. While there is no such thing as a perfect mother; I like to think if this is where I am slipping up and not meeting their needs, then I feel greatly satisfied with a job well done.
What are some of your reverse compliments? Mothers of the world, applaud yourselves!

My favorite is when my son says “How come I don’t get to have donuts for breakfast?” or “I hardly ever get to have McDonald’s!”. If his biggest complaint in life is not getting enough junk food, I can live with that.

Give yourself a pat on the back Mom!! Well done!! I get that one as well. Another one I get a lot is, “How come we alllllways have to hang up our schoolbags” when they come in from school. I am patting myself on the back as I write this 🙂
