Snaps to the Running Man…

November 17, 2009

It has occurred to me that many of you have never seen the Running Man.

So here he is…

He’s dreamy right?

I had to show you this photo because the rest of them that follow will be, um, sweaty.

This past Saturday, the Running Man completed his first (and I’m seriously hoping, only) Ironman.

In case you are unawares, that’s a 2.4-mile swim, followed by 112-mile bike, followed by a full 26.2-mile marathon.

When he sat me down to tell me he was planning it, I was not sure how to be supportive – I thought it was just crazy.

Well, crazy or not, he did it and I’m proud of his pretty stunning accomplishment.

Here he is at Mile 30:

Looking good and well ahead of schedule!

And at Mile 60:

Now 45 minutes ahead of the “fast” column on his expected time spreadsheet he made for me.  The Running Man is all about his spreadsheets.

So here’s where it goes awry.  He was so far ahead of where he thought he might be that I spent the rest of the race missing him.  He finished the bike at 2 pm and I was waiting for him at the transition between 2:30 and 4:30.  By that time he was well on the run and I even missed the finish! (What a wife!)

But I got this photo:

So after 11 hours and 37 minutes, the Running Man completed this enormous undertaking.  I was glad to have him in one piece!

And in case you were wondering if a name change might be in order, he’ll always be the Running Man to me.

All I have to say is: completely ridiculous! I’ll be lucky if I walk more than 50 steps today. I can’t believe everything he did under 12 hours!!! Some people are just plain crazy.

Great pictures and amazing accomplishment….for both of you. What a great wife and supporter you are – the training this required must have meant a lot of extra home/kid duty for you. Congrats to you both!

I vote for a name change! He’s clearly qualified for the “Ironman” moniker.

My husband once signed up for an ultra-marathon. It was cancelled due to tropical winds and rain (remants of a hurricane). I thought he was crazy. Espically, because the race was all trails-in the woods! I was so sad he didn’t get to run because he was really looking forward to it. So, I’ve been researching ultra-marathons here at our new duty station (South Korea, my husband is in the Army). There are a lot! I hope he gets to run one before we leave. 🙂
