Here is what has been going on with me…

  • My daughter had her friend sleep over and after their shower, like the big girls they are, applied moisturizer. However, instead of the Yes to Carrots lotion they grabbed the Jergens natural glow self-tanning.  That was interesting. Especially because they applied it to their faces. Uh huh.

  • My very good friend came from CT to visit, again, because she is awesome. And here is our new version of a Mom’s Night Out. Instead of going out to dinner we shop and run errands. There is something to be said for a good shopping buddy; every girl needs those. This time we got some essentials done – namely manis and pedis, and a much needed trip to Anthropologie and Ikea. I love Anthropologie – I want to buy aprons and rose patterned china when I am there. Ikea – what can I say – I can’t seem to stay away
  • I am one of those people who says, “That is sooooo ridiculous” when I see the Christmas display next to the Halloween candy. And my guilty confession is that I bought decorations this week. I.couldn’t.help.myself. Two adorable pillows, an angel napkin holder, and napkins. I stopped myself before I got the mini trees for my front door. I couldn’t decide if I wanted real trees or the fake variety. In October. When I was house hunting I knew I loved my house when, as soon as I walked through the front door, I started looking around for where to put the Christmas tree. In June. I will be totally transparent with you – I am the person visiting the Christmas store while on summer vacation, selecting ornaments to remember the trip. It’s an excuse – I really just want to buy Christmas decorations in August.
  • And Sandy. My heart goes out to everyone who lost so much. The beautiful seaside towns in New Jersey completely under water, the devastation in Breezy Point, NY, the fires in Old Greenwich, CT and the list goes on and on – it truly breaks your heart. I wish all of them peace and solace and the strength to get through this. You know how animals seek higher ground before a storm? I bake. Maybe it’s some primitive response, maybe it is nervous energy, maybe it calms me. Here is what I made – 2 batches of brownies, pumpkin bread, cinnamon muffins and I was about to start on the chocolate chip cookies when I ran out of eggs. And that was probably a good thing.

MaryKate, that is the funniest thing I ever heard. I would love to see some pics of the Jergens salon look. Hysterical. What did they think of their new bronzed look the next day- or were you able to get if off? I too buy Christmas ornaments on vacation. If it makes you feel better, one summer I also found an advent calendar that counted days until Christmas. Today when I was in the storage closet putting things away from Sandy, I looked briefly for that calendar but didn’t see it. I would have put it out. I also today found myself wondering when is too early for garland? Thanksgiving? When I see holiday decorations now my heart fills with joy. I looove it. 🙂 Also, I don’t know if you remember this, but didn’t you and Marta listen to Christmas music in the summer? There is something magical, spiritual and holy about the holidays. When things seem crazy, the holiday season is when you think about it is hope. I love that you bake. It is a wonderful reaction to have. God bless those without power, heat and homes. I am thankful you reminded me we can make a difference.

I will say although I shop for Christmas stuff all year – I do wait until after Thanksgiving until I put up the decor. I cant mix holidays – some OCD response of mine. So funny about the music – forgot about that! Now that I have been listening too… XO

What a great post! I’m behind the ball as we had no power for a week. I wish I had been there to see your girls with their tanning lotion! Sandy was pretty bad around here. The water has receeded but the trees down everywhere are remarkable. Clean-up may be a while!

Anne – I did realize quickly the moisturizer mix up and at least they washed their faces, and hands. Otherwise, they had a nice glow 🙂 I am thankful for you!!
