Set your Sails
October 6, 2009We have a wonderful Sailboat Regatta here in our town every October.
Today the weather was just gorgeous and we had a real Norman Rockwell day.
Some folks make their boats (we are among this category):
The homemade lot usually contain at least one of the following: styrofoam, plastic 2-liter bottles, milk jugs, paper sails, etc.
I love this man’s expression of pride for his boat. He went the 2-liter bottle route. Good sail.
Then there are the people who take the boat off the wall for the race:
Cabins, stands. We are not in Kansas anymore folks.
Last minute tweaks. And I thought this was for the adorables. Silly me.
These are some serious contenders.
So racetime was drawing near…
There were several different heats to account for the different speeds (and quality) of boats.
On your mark, get set…
And they’re off.
Go, baby, go.
These are the boats that made it away from the shore.
This adorable was the second place winner!
Our boat made it half-way across the pond the first race and after tweaking, sank in the second race (one really sweet girl saved it for us though). The Running Man is already planning for next year. Hint: it’s all about the keel.
